Westminster residents are up in arms over the differential charged between Sainsbury’s Market near Vic- toria Station, and prices at Sainsbury’s in Victoria Street next to City Hall.
by Edward Lloyd

Prices in Victoria Street are up to 10 per cent higher than those in the Market, and yet the footfall in Victoria Street is amongst the highest among Sainsbury’s stores. Sainsbury’s in Victoria Street became notorious for a black tie launch party for MP’s, hosted by former Chairman Sir Peter Davis, and more recently for a card cloning scam by outside fraudsters, targeting a large number of victims among residents and office work- ers. The company has four outlets within 100 yards of Victoria Station.

A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s commented. “Sainsbury’s operates a national pricing policy so you will pay the same for items no matter where you are. Prices in Sainsbury’s Locals, which are consistent across the country, are slightly higher than in our supermarkets because their central locations and longer trading hours result in higher rents, delivery and employment costs. We have found that our customers appreciate the service offered by our convenience stores and are prepared to pay a small premium in return. In addition, we compare our convenience store prices with those of our competitors in order to re- main competitive.”
